Ruminations About Artistic Vision

I hope not to sound pretentious, but rather encouraging in this blog post. Your artistic vision can come from just about anywhere, from the music you listen to, to your religious and philosophical beliefs, to the realm of cars or architecture. I do not like to limit my artistic vision to just other clothing brands, because that can make your vision extremely narrow. For example, modern fashion is typically obsessed with post World War II women’s haute French couture, and I think that is a great branching point for anyone wanting to break into the the business. However, your hunt for a shape or mood should not end there.

Some of my best work begins with some sort of mental mood board as we can call it. For example, think of a peaceful summer day in a forest? What shapes do you see? How about a bustling street in Rome, where street and graffiti artists tread those same bumpy carriage roads that old Roman Emperors did? What do you feel when you take a look at some column in the Vatican?

We do not have to traverse to those far fetched places either. A vision can come from just about anywhere. My favorite inspirations will always be science fiction narrative, Roman and Islamic Architecture, and Japanese tenets of wabi sabi, where minimalism and maximalism live in uneasy balance. I also have an odd fixation with municipal architecture and infrastructure, which can be found just about anywhere. For example, my Robin Amice Dress has been inspired by historical Catholic as well as Chinese garb. If you would like some ideas, please contact me.
